Neve Campbell was born on October 3, 1973
in Guelph, Canada. Her parents divorced when she was a baby. Her
mother, Marnie Neve, a psychologist, runs a yoga studio in Vancouver.
Her father, Gerry Campbell is a high school drama teacher in Toronto. Neve
has three brothers: Christian, 25, starred as Teddy Delacourt on the short-
lived series Malibu Shores. He currently lives in LA and runs a theatre
company called Blue Sphere Alliance; Alex, 12, who has just gotten his
own TV series in Canada; and Damian, who unfortunately has the disorder
Tourette's Syndrome (Neve is the national youth spokeswoman for the disorder).
Neve began dancing at 6 years of age. She joined the National Ballet
School of Canada at 9, with her heart set on becoming a professional ballerina.
In her first year, she performed The Nutcracker with the National Ballet
of Canada. Neve quit when she was 15 because of the extreme pressure
and back-stabbing competition. She "felt as though [she] was headed for
a nervous breakdown". She also longed for a "normal" high school life,
and enrolled in a public school for a year before switching to an alternative
school for artists, actors and athletes.
Neve attended an audition for Canada's Phantom
of the Opera with some dancing friends and won a role as one of the Degas
Girls. She was the youngest person on the cast and ended up staying with
the company for two years.
Neve then went on to act on a Canadian TV series
Catwalk for one season before quitting because of the direction her character
was heading. She did some guest appearances on Kids in the Hall, Are You
Afraid of the Dark? and My Secret Identity, as well as some movies, including
I Know My Son is Alive, The Dark and Paint Cans.
Neve travelled to LA in 1994 to "throw [her]
name around". She auditioned with 300 other girls for the character of
Julia Salinger in Party of Five, and two weeks later found she had gotten
the show. Neve then moved to LA permanently with a Shih Tzu named Buster
to keep her company. Later that year she travelled to the UK to film the
telemovie The Canterville Ghost. Neve married her boyfriend of five
years, Jeff Colt, on April 3 1995, in the registry office of Westminster.
They invited only 13 people, all from the film, and honeymooned in Venice,
Paris and Zurich. Neve and Jeff met while Neve was performing in Phantom
and Jeff was bartending. They successfully maintained a long-distance relationship
when Neve moved to LA for Party, but separated mid-1997. During hiatus
from Party, Neve filmed two movies, both horror films. She plays Bonnie
in The Craft, and more recently, Sidney in Wes Craven's Scream & Scream
2. Neve chose her characters carefully - "What I really loved about
both the characters were their huge transitions." Neve has finished
filming Wild Things and 54 and is currently working on The Lion King 2,
Hairshirt and Three to Tango, and Party of Five has been renewed for a
fourth season. Neve is also making an educational tape for Tourette's Syndrome
and is busy with her new house in Hollywood Hills |
